A downloadable game

RUA! - O Jogo do Adulto (English: OUT! - An Adult’s Game) is an educational tabletop & video game hybrid experience created by 0f1c1n4 of Rato-ADCC, in partnership with the Municipality of Seixal and the Corroios Parish Council, with the objective of raising youth awareness about topics of employment, citizenship, finances, and housing in a Portuguese and European context.

Players follow a familiar roll-and-move format, moving playing pieces across multiple stations on a game board, with every step determined by the roll of a four-sided die. Each of the board’s 20 stations hold unique challenges, designed as a collection of digital mini-games, that tackle various aspects of adult life. The player’s future turns are influenced by their performance at each station, having a direct impact on their placement within the game board.

The game aims to offer a balanced experience, made up of equal parts luck and skill, and contains elements of non-linear design and light procedural generation to decrease content repetition. To accommodate play on any device with little to no setup requirements, the game was made to run on HTML5 and JavaScript, and supports touchscreen controls. Intended to be played independently in a class setting by up to 4 players on separate devices.

Founded in 2000, Rato - Associação para a Divulgação Cultural e Científica (Association for Cultural and Scientific Dissemination) develops initiatives and projects for social inclusion using Information and Communication Technologies.
